The police force in Northumbria has lost over 1,100 officers since 2010 because of the Conservative Government’s budget cuts. It was one of the forces to be hit worst by funding reductions across the country.
Nationally, the Tories have cut billions in funding the police, leading to the loss of tens of thousands of police officers from our streets and soaring levels of violent crime.
A total of 185 additional officers for the Northumbria Police force area will now be recruited over the next 2 years in a pre election funding giveaway by Johnson.
Labour will end austerity and properly invest in the police, youth services, our NHS and other public services to rebuild our communities.
