Congratulations Kim

After a hard fought campaign Kim McGuinness has been elected as the first NE Mayor. This is a historic victory which saw Kim win 185,051 votes (41%), with independent Jamie Driscoll in second place on 126,652 and Conservative Guy Renner-Thompson in third place on 52,446. A full list of candidates and vote share can be found here.

Local elections in Callerton and Throckley saw Linda Wright elected to Newcastle City Council for Labour in another positive result.

At the time of writing the result of the Police and Crime Commissioner election is still uncertain but the signs look good for Labour’s candidate Susan Dungworth.

Everyone in the Hexham CLP knows how hard we and the candidates worked to secure these election victories. They show that Labour is winning and the people of Britain trust us to lead them, whether that be in cities, towns or rural areas.

Elsewhere (at the time of writing) Labour is recording significant wins across the country in other local elections. The Conservatives have so far lost in excess of 300 council seats.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted us and voted Labour. We won’t let you down!
