Why I am standing for Haltwhistle …
I was born and brought up in the North East, and for the last 16 years West Northumberland has been my home. I am now retired, having latterly worked locally in the social housing sector.
I have previously served as a councillor on Tyneside. During this time, I led a major multi-tenure housing and community regeneration project, set-up a local credit union, was instrumental in getting a youth and community project off the ground and was actively engaged with an independent welfare benefits advice centre. I have a keen interest in local health issues and have served the NHS in a variety of capacities over the years.
I believe it is important that councillors work in the interests of all the residents and communities they serve, including regularly making themselves available to meet constituents. As an elected member, I had a strong record of community engagement and service.
I will bring these qualities to the role if elected to represent the people of the Haltwhistle ward.
