It was with great sadness and shock that I learnt last night of the passing of Seán McGovern, (TUC Co-Chair Disabled Workers Committee and Unite Executive Council for Disability), a giant in trade unionism for disabled people, a friend and activist, pushing disability into the limelight.

I have, a few times, taken part in direct action with DPAC (Disabled People Against Cuts) and Sean, and he was a good friend to me – albeit we haven’t seen much of each other in recent years due to our disabilities and ill health – but we chatted often on social media.  This will leave a huge void in the disability movement and trade unionism.

Sean was always there for disabled workers and activists alike, and if you needed to ask a question or confirm something, you could guarantee he would support and help you.  Working or not, Seán would stand up for disabled people.

He was an incredible workhorse, and managed to find time to write a blog too.
